Happy Birthday Emily

Well, I channelled my inner Dora and created this cake for Emily's birthday. Was skeptical about how it might turn out, but decided it is not to bad, considering I totally winged it. Just could not stomach paying $22 for a small decorated cake from Kroger, which would just have a Dora figurine stuck in the middle. So -- this is what I ended up with. Emily was thrilled, and that is all that matters.

What I have been up to...

Just when I thought things would slow a bit...ha! This past weekend was my parent's 40th wedding anniversary -- got the idea last Monday to make them a little "well wishes" book. Sent emails to their friends and our family and just put it together. Sounds simple, except that I was at their house Tuesday thru Thursday and could not work on it then, other than to send emails. Crazy crunch time on Friday, but I got it put together and I think it looks pretty good. Used my CM Storybook to create the pages (thank God for copy and paste) and I am quite thankful that a) my computer worked perfectly last week and b) I did not run out of ink for my printer!
This week I have to get it in gear to plan a Dora birthday party for Emily (on Sunday)! Always something!

Sketch 15

Gotta say, when I first saw this sketch, I was not too thrilled --- another one photo layout. Then someone (not me) had the great idea to include photos in the blocks on the right --- duh -- great idea. This is an 8x8 -- really like how it looks. See more with the sketch at 52 weeks
Looking forward to a few days away at my parents' house for spring break -- hope the weather cooperates a little!

Cookie Inspiration and Easter '09
A few pictures from our day. Grandma and Grandpa came and spoiled the grandchildren. A family tradition is to fly kites on Easter (weather permitting) and fortunately this year it did. Kite flying was followed by ice cream at Graeters -- yummy!!
Stacy Julian had this post last week about scrapping a family tradition and creating giant Ginger Bunny cookies for her kids' Easter baskets. Well, that idea was just too good to pass up! I decided to make giant Sugar Cookie Bunnies for our Easter Brunch -- they were placecards and dessert -- cute and yummy!Saturday, April 11, 2009

A day at the park

We have a baseball themed park here in town. These are pics from the first time we went there -- nothing like exploring a new park for the first time. Colors on this page did not photo well, the star paper is really red and white, not orange and white as it looks here. Made the chipboard star myself out of some scraps and covered it -- popped it out with mini pop-dots. This was another design inspired by Simple Scrapbooks -- so sad that magazine is no more.

Inspired by Simple

Flipping through some old issues of Simple Scrapbooks this weekend inspired me to create a few pages -- clean lines for the most part, trying to use patterned paper. I just love pp, but often have trouble using it so that the page looks good, not gaudy. I admire those who can mix several pp on one page and have it look great -- I am not one of those and would love to be.
Had my neighbor friends over to scrap yesterday --- felt like I truly broke in my scrap room. I just love my space!

sketch 13

For this week's sketch challenge at 52 sketches...52 weeks. Not typically a 1 photo on a page person, but thought I would try it out. The colors in this photo are really icky --- not at all what it looks like in person -- background is more of a celery then this seafoamy color. Made the letters with my Cricut -- hubby calls it my Grasshopper!
